💎 Net Worth Calculator

Net worth is the single best measure of financial progress. Add up everything you own (assets) and subtract everything you owe (liabilities). Track this number quarterly — it should grow over time even when income, market, or expenses fluctuate.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as an asset?

Cash, investments (401k, IRA, brokerage, crypto), real estate equity, vehicles, valuables. Use current market value, not original cost.

How often should I track it?

Quarterly is plenty. Monthly tracking causes anxiety from market swings. The trend over years is what matters.

Should I include my home?

Most include it but recognize it's illiquid. "Liquid net worth" excludes home equity — useful if you're thinking about FIRE.

Is a negative net worth bad?

Common for new graduates with student loans. Focus on the trend — going from -$50k to -$10k is great progress.
