📈 ROI Calculator

Two investments doubled your money. One took three years, the other took fifteen. Calling them both "100% ROI" makes them sound equivalent — they are not. Annualized return (CAGR) is the version of ROI that lets you actually compare investments held for different lengths of time. This calculator gives you both: the headline percent gain everyone quotes, plus the annualized figure that's more honest. Drop in what you paid, what you sold for, and how many years you held it. Works for stocks, real estate, your friend's startup you put $5k into in 2019, any of it.

Frequently asked questions

ROI vs CAGR?

ROI is total percent gain regardless of time. CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) annualizes it. 50% over 5 years = 8.4% CAGR.

Does this include costs?

Subtract fees, taxes, and transaction costs from final value for accurate ROI. We don't auto-deduct.

What's a good ROI?

Stocks historical: 7% real per year. Above is great; below means you might as well index.
